Domain Registration Scam Aimed At Domain Owners

Today I got the below email about one of my website’s domain name. Initially I was puzzled. Then I’ve done some investigation in the internet and found that this is a scam. I’m publishing the contents of the email so as it can be helpful for someone who is getting this type of email about their domain name.

Subject: Imperative confirmation of registering brand “[——–]”

(It’s very urgent, Please transfer this email to your CEO or appropriate person, thanks)

Dear Sir or Madam,

We are a specialized company for domain name registration and protection. Here, we have an issue about your intellectual property rights to confirm with you. We formally received an application on June 5,2013 that a company which self-styled”Ato Pu Global Limited”were applying to register “[——–]” as their Brand name and some domain names through our firm.

Now we are handling this registration, and after our initial checking, we found the name were similar to your company’s, so we need to check with you whether your company has authorized that company to register these names. If you authorized this, we will finish the registration at once. If you did not authorize, please let us know within 7 workdays, so that we will handle this issue better. Out of the time limit we will unconditionally finish the registration for”Ato Pu Global Limited”.Looking forward to your prompt reply.

After some investigation I’ve decided not to respond to this email.

Again!…. I got another spam email regarding domain name registration. I think these guys wont stop it.

This is Andy Zhang—Senior Consultant of domain name registration and solution center in China. Here I have something to confirm with you. We formally received an application on March 18, 2014. that a company claimed “RENTRANCE LTD” were applying to register “[——–]” as their Network Brand and some “[——–]” Asian countries top-level domain names(in/hk/tw/etc) and China (CN) domain names through our firm.

Now we are handling this registration, and after our initial checking, we found the name were similar to your company’s, so we need to check with you whether your company has authorized that company to register these names. If you authorized this, we would finish the registration at once. If you did not authorize, please let us know within 7 workdays, so that we could handle this issue better. After the deadline we will unconditionally finish the registration for “RENTRANCE LTD”. Looking forward to your prompt reply.

(This is a very important case, so please transfer this email to your CEO or Principal. Thanks a lot.)

How are you! The reason why I am sending you this email is because we received an application from “Wu Investment Ltd” today who wants to register the brand name:[——–] and some relevant domains under [——–] in different areas. (several domain extensions, like .cn, etc.)

Due to the applicant’s name “Wu Investment Ltd” is quite different from [——–], so we checked in system and found [——–] is your using name. In accordance with domain registration principle, we are obliged to inform you this case. Please confirm whether “Wu Investment Ltd” was authorized by you. If not, please contact me within 7 workdays for letting us handle this case properly. Out of the period, we would regard this application was authorized by you and accept their application legally. Looking forward to your prompt confirmation.
